GCMA Wales – South West v Midlands v Wales 2026

Venue – Long Ashton GC
Date – 20 August 2026

The inaugural Tri-Regional match was hosted by the South West at Long Ashton GC (Bristol)
The format was best 6 stableford scores from 8 from each team, groups of 3 were made up of one from each region, allowing everyone to meet and get to know someone new or reestablish previous friendships.

After a welcome bacon roll and coffee, Reece Miller (Long Ashton’s GM) welcomed us all, a hectic and demanding day did not allow him to come out to play for us on this occasion.

The Welsh team was – Richard Brookman (Wales Captain), Phil Beard, John Edwards, Peter Gabriel, Viv Price, Mike Rees, Gareth Evans & Richard Healy (subbing for John Hill who was called away)
As National Captain, Ray Chilten was called on to sub for a midlands colleague whose car broke down on the way, leaving Paul Adams as the lone sub who played round with the last group (he played pretty well too)

We nearly got everyone round in the dry, the last group raced they final putts and ran for cover to avoid getting totally soaked.

After an excellent 2 course dinner, the result was revealed, it wasn’t Wales day, the Midlands coming out as inaugural winners of the Tri-Regional Match and were presented with the new trophy
