GCMA Wales – England v Wales 2026

Getting to Mullion GC was an adventure in its own right, whether stopping on the way down from Yorkshire, wriggling across the south coast A roads, batting the M4 / M5 on a Friday or caught up behind a Saturday shunt on the A30, we all convened at some point on the Saturday, ready to commence on Sunday.
The United Kingdom’s must southerly golf club is perched on the Lizard headland with views down onto the rugged coastline and of Penzance away across Mount’s Bay. A very undulating course further defended by the ever present healthy winds. Practice day was in a ‘gale’, thankfully is decreasing on the match days to a ‘strong wind’ and then down again to a ‘good Cornish breeze’.
After a hard earned 2.5-2.5 result on Day One in a ‘strong wind’, Day Two was also shared in what was apparently a mere ‘good Cornish breeze’, so with a final score of 5-5, Wales retained the trophy.
At the formal dinner, Richard Brookman (Wales Captain) and Mick Thorp (England Match Captain) delivered speeches which thanked Mullion GC for hosting us so graciously and the efforts of both teams for reaching Mullion GC while emphasising the value and joy of playing this match.
Mr Brookman enshrined new nom-de-plume’s to Barney and Matt, which embraced with enthusiasm and good grace.
